How will you save energy by participating:  When you enroll in PeakRewards℠ you will be offered the choice of installation of a Honeywell programmable thermostat or an outside switch installed on your heat pump or air conditioner (Smart Switch) that will help reduce energy consumption and costs. BGE will send a signal to your thermostat or switch to turn your air conditioning unit on and off. This cycling of your air conditioner reduces your electricity use when reductions are needed the most, helping BGE to keep down the cost of electricity.

Saving a little helps a lot:  By allowing BGE to cycle (turn on and off) your central air for minutes at a time during times of peak demand, you’ll be helping to manage the effects of demand for energy and reduce the need for additional electrical power generation plants and transmission lines. Bottom line – you’ll be helping the environment by using energy more efficiently.
