Energy Solutions for Business

Custom Measures & Projects

BGE's Energy Solutions for Business Program offers incentives for custom energy efficiency measures that are more expansive than common prescriptive measures. Financial incentives are available for site-specific, cost-effective projects. Develop the scope of your project by either contacting a contractor of your choice or by working with your internal staff.

How to Participate

  1. Contact a BGE Energy Solutions for Business representative at business@BGESmartEnergy.com or call 410.290.1202 to determine your project’s eligibility. (Note: Project expenditures made by the customer prior to the customer receiving approval of an application will not be eligible for incentives.)
(Note: A site inspection may be required as part of BGE’s approval process. You will learn the minimum operation requirements.)
  2. Submit the Custom Application via the Application Center for approval prior to starting the project, along with the following supporting information:
    • Project overview
    • Existing and proposed system descriptions
    • Energy impact and cost calculations
    • Manufacturer data sheets
    • The BGE electric account number
  3. You will be notified when your project has been approved for payment and what the operational requirements will be.
  4. After you receive approval, purchase and install the new equipment. Be sure to notify BGE before implementing any changes to the approved project scope. (Note: There is a time limit for installation—typically within 6 months of approval for retrofit projects and within 1 year of approval for new construction.)
  5. Upon completion of project, BGE customer of record must sign and return the pre-approval letter and provide invoices (with customer signature indicating awareness and satisfaction for each measure) and supporting documentation for all energy efficiency measures. Ensure that the final equipment installed is identical to the equipment specified in your initial application. BGE may require a post-installation inspection to verify compliance with program rules and verify the accuracy of project documentation and equipment operation.
  6. You will be notified when your project has been approved for payment.
  7. You will receive your incentive check within 6–8 weeks after the project’s completion and payment approval.

Comprehensive New Construction

BGE's Energy Solutions for Business Program offers technical assistance and financial incentives for new construction, additions, and major renovation projects that are still in the early design phase. Pre-approval from BGE is required prior to design, purchase or installation of equipment. Call 410.290.1202 to determine your projects eligibility.

How to Participate

  1. Complete and submit the application.
  2. Once BGE receives your application, a BGE Program Representative will call you to schedule a preliminary meeting to discuss your project.
  3. Your BGE Program Representative will schedule a project scoping meeting between the Customer, the Customer’s Design Team and BGE’s approved Technical Services Provider.
  4. Based on information obtained at the project scoping meeting, the Customer’s Design Team and the BGE approved Technical Services Provider will analyze the project to determine the electric energy savings and any potential rebates for equipment upgrades. Final reports along with a New Construction Summary Saving Request will be sent to BGE for final review.
  5. Once you and your BGE Program Representative agree upon the electric energy savings measures to be installed and the corresponding potential rebate, BGE will send a pre-approval letter along with the Minimum Requirement Document (MRD). This letter is your authorization from BGE to purchase and install the equipment identified in the study.
  6. BGE will hold a post-inspection of the installed equipment and determine the final rebate amount based on inspection findings.
  7. You will receive your incentive check within 6-8 weeks after the post-inspection.

Prescriptive Measures
