Connecting a Smart Thermostat

Connecting your smart thermostat to BGE Smart Home will help you stay comfortable while cooling your home efficiently—and only when needed.

By connecting your compatible smart thermostat you can:

  • Control your home’s heating and cooling system from the BGE Smart Home app on your mobile device.
  • Pair your smart thermostat with the motion and entry sensors in your BGE Smart Home kit to help recognize your occupancy patterns and create energy-saving rules for your home.
  • Automatically adjust your home’s temperature as BGE Smart Home learns your preferences.
  • Monitor your energy use and temperature data in the BGE Smart Home app to boost efficiency and savings.

Compatible thermostats include ecobee (ecobee3, ecobee3 lite and ecobee4) and Honeywell Lyric (Round, T5 and T6 Pro) thermostats.

Adding an ecobee Thermostat

Step 1: From the home screen in the app, tap Cameras & Devices > Add Devices > ecobee Thermostat.

Step 2: Enter your ecobee account credentials into the email and password fields of the BGE Smart Home app and click Log in.

Step 3: Click Accept to give the BGE Smart Home app permission to operate your ecobee thermostat. You will then see an “Authorized successfully!” message.

Step 4: Next, navigate back to Cameras & Devices, using the “back” buttons in the top right corner of the app. You should now see your ecobee thermostat included in the device list under “Climate Control.”

Adding a Honeywell Lyric Thermostat

Step 1: From the home screen in the app, tap Cameras & Devices > Add Devices > Honeywell Thermostat.

Step 2: Enter your Honeywell Lyric account credentials into the email and password fields of the BGE Smart Home app and click Log in.

Step 3: Click Accept to give the BGE Smart Home app permission to operate your Honeywell thermostat. You will then see an “Authorized successfully!” message.

Step 4: Next, navigate back to Cameras & Devices using the “back” button in the top right corner of the app. You should now see your Honeywell Lyric thermostat included in the device list under “Climate Control.”
