PeakRewardsSM Multifamily Air Conditioning Program Program Update As of April 1, 2020, the PeakRewards Multifamily Air Conditioning (A/C) Program will no longer accept new participants. All current participants will either remain at their current cycling level or have the option to choose to reduce their current level. View Cycling Levels Apartment complexes and multifamily communities can receive BGE bill credits for helping to reduce the amount of electricity used during times of “peak demand,” which helps to maintain reliable service while keeping down the electricity cost for everyone. By choosing to participate in the PeakRewards Multifamily Program, property managers can enroll their units at no out-of-pocket cost. How does it work?In times of high electricity demand, the PeakRewards air conditioning switch or programmable thermostat installed in each unit will receive a signal to cycle the unit’s air conditioning on and off to prevent brownouts and blackouts throughout the region. These “cycling events” typically occur during the summer months (June–September) when demand for electricity is especially high but can also happen during other times of the year. In exchange for their participation, residents receive $50 in total summer bill credits, paid in equal installments of $12.50 from June through September.Customers who move into a participating community with an existing PeakRewards device will be defaulted to a 50% cycling level.Supporting you and your communityBy participating in PeakRewards, you are taking a smart and easy step to:Ease the burden on our existing electricity delivery system and reduce the need for additional power plantsProtect our environment by lowering power plant emissions to reduce our carbon footprintTake advantage of energy-saving solutions brought to you by EmPOWER MarylandIf you participate in both, you will receive whichever credit is higher each month.
