Turn your old appliances into $25 rewards at the BGE recycling event on June 7, 2025.

Drop off your old, working room A/C unit, dehumidifier or mini fridge for recycling and receive a $25 reward per item, up to four units. We’ll even unload it from your vehicle, making drop-off easy, safe and convenient.

This event is in partnership with The Columbia Association and The Department of Housing and Community Development.

When: Saturday, June 7, 2025, 8 a.m.–12 p.m.

Where: Columbia Association, 9450 Gerwig Lane, Columbia, MD 21046

Your time is important to us. Help us cut down on wait times for the event by preregistering for the event.

Large fridges or freezers will not be accepted at drop-off events. Schedule a home pickup to recycle your large appliances.  

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • You must be a BGE residential electric customer to participate.
  • Please bring your valid account number or a copy of a recent BGE electric bill with you to the event.
  • Room A/C units, dehumidifiers and mini fridges must be in working condition.
  • Customers can recycle up to four small appliances (room A/C units, dehumidifiers, and/or mini fridges) per residential household from Jan. 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2026.
  • Your reward(s) will be mailed to you within 6 to 8 weeks.

The EmPOWER Maryland charge funds programs that can help you reduce your energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and save you money. Since the inception of the EmPOWER Maryland program in 2008, the programs have saved $14.5 billion on installed measures at a cost of $4.1 billion. In addition to new program costs, this charge includes paying off the uncollected costs that were accrued over time by programs required by the EmPOWER statute and authorized by the Commission. In accordance with House Bill 864 the uncollected amounts will be fully paid by the end of 2032.
